Step in the top plate
A stepped wall is framed and lifted as two panels: the taller one stands first and its end stud is the riser of the step; the shorter panel's plates butt into it. The split keeps the stud layout running through on the same 16" grid, moves each opening, post and backer to its side, and links the two ends as an in-line step so the caps don't try to lap. Openings that straddle the step get flagged.

Plates split to stock length with every splice landing on a stud (double the stud at splices). Cap plate splices auto-offset at least 4'-0" from top plate splices and from wall ends — you get a warning if the wall can't make that work. On concrete, bolts land ≤12" from every plate end and at the max spacing between — embed & size per plans.

Rake / slope
“Height” above = the LOW end(s). Single rake: pitch or the high end's T.O.P. — type the height or the truss plan's delta with a plus (+5' 10 3/16"). Gable: both slopes rake to the peak — set peak height (or pitch) and where the peak lands (default center). Framed as ONE wall, laid out from the left end.
Layout pull
Butting into a wall at that corner? Enter its depth (e.g. 5 1/2") — first stud pulls at 15 1/4" minus that, so sheets break on layout from the building corner. If this wall runs past the corner, leave it 0.
Corners & ends
What each end meets
Set what a wall end runs into and the app sets both walls: the corner assembly on each, whose cap laps over whose, the channel and cap leave-out where a T-wall lands, and it checks that a closed box actually closes. Walls built from a plan get these filled in.
90 = a square corner. Type the inside angle the plan shows where this wall meets the next one — 135 for an octagon (45° clip), 120 for a hexagon. Anything but 90 puts an ANGLE cut on both plate ends and a bevel rip on the corner studs, and the wall length is the LONG POINT.

Type them in one line, as many as you want, and they land on the wall with the wall's header default and the head height if one is set. Sizes: 3050, 36x60, 3'x5', 9x8 garage door, 6' slider, or a schedule mark. Positions: at 4', 12', 20' (centres from the left), at 6' from the right, centered, centered between W1 and W2, 8' right of W1. Nothing said about position spreads them evenly.

Solid wood plate to plate where the plans put a point load on the cap (girder truss, beam above) or a hold-down. No pocket — the beam is above the wall. Hardware and bearing below per plans.

The glulam (or LVL, PSL, timber) that lands on the top plate and carries the floor above. Two ways it gets framed — pick the one the plans show, because it changes every stud length on this wall.
A beam sits on top of this wall
The beam is set after the wall is standing, so it stays out of the panel lift weight — its own weight and crew call show up in the warnings. Size, depth, ply count, bearing length, the connection down to the wall, where it is allowed to break and everything under it are per the approved plans and the engineer of record. This tool never says a beam is big enough.

Drives the nail counts, the tap-a-piece steps, and the nailing line on every crew sheet. Two nails on the job: 16d for framing (stud ends, stitch, plates, headers, blocking), 8d for sheathing. Typical IRC-style schedule — shear walls and anything on the plans win.

Dimensions: type 12' 6 1/2", 9', or 92 5/8". A bare number over 30 reads as inches, otherwise feet — the blue readout under each box shows how it was read.

Floor bands sit between stories, and every wall's sheathing draws over the framing so you can see sheets carry across the bands. Gaps in band coverage get flagged.

Leave this OFF and every turn on the plan is squared — a wall typed 1/2" off will not quietly become an 87° corner with angle-cut plates. Tick it only when the plans really do show an angled corner; you can always set one wall's end angle by hand on the Walls tab.

Every wall gets built off the wall you have open now — same height, stud, sheathing — with the corner angles filled in and the walls stood up in order. Wall lengths are LONG POINT (outside face).

Custom: trace the floor plan — add walls in order and give each one a direction — eight compass points, or “at an angle…” for any bearing in degrees; the little plan shows the footprint forming as you go, so L-shapes and jogs are easy. Roof plane draws on closed rectangular footprints. Corner overlaps aren't trimmed.

What does that dimension read?
Stair spec
Measure it for real, both ends, before you cut anything. If the finish floors aren't down yet, put their thickness in below and measure subfloor to subfloor — the app does the rest.
Stringers
Stringer size, spacing and the hardware at the top are per the approved plans or the engineer of record — the app checks the throat left under the notch against the manufacturer's minimum and nothing more.
Treads & risers
Landing
Landing has to be at least 36" in the direction of travel and no narrower than the stair (IRC R311.7.6). Post bearing and the ledger fasteners come off the plans.
Floor above & headroom
Floor thickness = joist + subfloor + ceiling finish, top of upper finished floor down to the drywall. Headroom is checked at every nosing against 6'-8" (IRC R311.7.2).

Loft edges & rail
A loft is a floor with one or two sides that do not sit on a wall. Ledger: joists hang on hangers off a member bolted to the wall or posts. Open edge: a flush beam on posts carries the joist ends and the rail wall stands on the deck. Ledger bolting, beam size, post footings and rail height are per the plans and code.
Decking, rail & footings
Decking replaces the subfloor below — fascia goes on every edge that is not a ledger against the house. Guard rail follows the same open sides picked in "Guard rail wall" above; post spacing, baluster gap and height are per code (typically a 36" residential guard, ≤4" sphere) and the plans — this only counts what you set here. One footing pier goes under every post above; diameter, depth and frost line are per the plans / local code.
Covered — build a shed roof over it
Shed roof off the house: ledger high on the wall, rafters slope down to the header on the same posts that carry the deck beam. Sub fascia only — no finish fascia, matching the house standard. Rafter size, ledger attachment and post continuity from footing to header are per the plans / engineer. Standing seam always goes over sheathing, mechanical lock (field seamed) — this always sheathes the roof. A gable porch with end walls — build those in the Wall and Roof tabs instead; this covers the common lean-to porch roof.
The span is the joist direction, outside of rim to outside of rim; the exterior walls are the two end bearings. A cantilever moves the wall inboard of the rim by that much. Joist series, spacing and depth come off the plans or the supplier's placement plan — type what they show.
Bearing lines inside the span
A joist longer than the longest stock breaks over a bearing — I-joists and LVL butt over it, sawn joists lap. Beams and their posts are on the plans; this only needs where they sit.
Openings — stairwell, chase
Point loads from above
A post, a hold-down pack, a wide header’s jamb pack or a beam pocket in a wall above is a point load through this floor. Say which rim or bearing line the wall sits on and how far along it the load is; the floor puts squash blocks and solid blocking under it and marks it on the plan. One that lands mid-span with nothing under it goes red — that is a beam or post for the engineer, not this tool.

Where a hold-down or a shear wall above has to reach the wall below. Laid out here so it goes on before the deck and the wall cover the rim — whether it is required, and what it is, comes off the shear wall schedule.

Auto — best stock for the wall height reads each wall's tallest stud and picks dimensional, LSL or LVL off the two limits in Stock & lengths below; the wall stays the same depth either way. Sizes and species are per the approved plans or engineer of record.

Use precut studs
Rake-wall studs longer than “sawn up to” get ordered as LSL, past the LSL limit as LVL 1-3/4", matched to the wall depth. Everything nests into the fewest sticks with the least waste (1/8" kerf) — headers can come as short as the first sawn length in your list, and with precuts on, an odd-height wall (say 115" on a walkout pour) orders trim-down precuts when that wastes less than nominal stock.
JobTread: the package is the order as cost items — one per yard line, Materials, sell = cost ÷ 0.80, specs on, every custom field pre-filled the way the estimate standard wants, quantities in. Prices stay blank for the quote. Import it, or tap Copy and paste it to Claude with the job name and it pushes the tree into that job (you confirm before it writes). Labor goes in as its own line from the build-time estimate. This push still includes floors and interior finish alongside framing, so JobTread gets the whole job in one go.
Every saved wall rolled into one order: framing nested into stock lengths with a stick-by-stick cutting plan, plates and blocking by footage, sheets by material, nails and ZIP tape totaled. Estimates — check against the plans before you call it in.

Steel-Ply: 24" panels with 4"–22" fillers (plus 5" and steel 1", 1½", 2"), dados 12" o.c., inside corners 4×4 or 6×6, outside bay corner 7×7, one 2x4 waler row per tier, strongbacks about 8' apart.
Job-built: ¾" form ply, 2x4 studs 12" o.c., doubled 2x4 walers, snap ties on a 24" × 24" grid. Tie spacing and form pressure per your forming plan and pour rate.

One aligning waler per tier is the Steel-Ply standard — 6" or 18" down from the top of the panels, on the alignment side. The one-piece waler clamp hooks any side-rail slot that is not holding a tie and takes one or two 2x4s. Strongbacks run vertical, 90° to the walers, doubled 2x lumber, commonly 8′ o.c. and snapped to a panel joint. Walers and strongbacks straighten the form — the braces and stakes are what hold it.

Form Plan — looking down
Colours are panel widths — the crew reads the plan and grabs that form. Both faces of a wall run identical between the corners so every joint lines up and the ties pass: the inside starts with the corner form and a standard 24" panel, the outside starts with a wall + corner filler. Footprint comes from your concrete walls, or the dimensions on the Footings tab.

Wing (valley tie-in)
A wing ties into this roof — two valleys and their jacks
Equal pitch only. Same pitch both ways puts the valley at 45° in plan, which is what makes the jack schedule a straight step — the common difference is printed on the cut list. A wing at a different pitch is a plans-and-engineer valley and the tool says so instead of guessing.
Dormers
Every dormer is a hole in the roof: a doubled trimmer rafter each side and a 2-ply header top and bottom. Those carry roof load — size, hangers and connections come off the approved plans or the engineer of record. A shed dormer has to run flatter than the roof it comes out of.
Roof covering
Standing seam goes on a solid deck, every time, and there is no rake trim on it — the panel wraps the rake edge. Hips step the panels down into the corner; the schedule below is grouped by length so the shop can run it. Min slope, clip spacing and snow-load layout are the manufacturer’s numbers, not this tool’s.
Roof sheathing starts at the sub fascia and works up the rake in 4' courses — “on breaks” drops an outlooker dead on every course line so the panel edges land on wood, with fill outlookers between so nothing exceeds your max spacing. Flat outlookers lay over a dropped gable truss; on-edge (e.g. 2x10 into a 2x10 drop truss) hang in the drop truss and bear back to the first common. Outlooker length = one truss bay + overhang to the back of the sub fascia.
